I've got an 8800GTS (G80 core) which is the same generation but higher-end, and it is worth bugger-all these days. I only wish I could replace my logic board with one containing the ATI chipset. I also checked my processor.
Already have an account? Apart from that, games might run slightly smoother under WinXP, not by much though. I agree it gets confusing with model numbers, even more so when its things like 5870 vs 6850, higher number isn't always better. if you have 20A on your 12v rail this card will run easily.

Not sure exactly how the 8600 GT stacks up but the sub £100 cards like the GTS 450 only seem to offer about 10-20 fps more than your existing card in I'll test it later when I've got hold of a fan.

All I am looking for is a cheap card that I would hope is better than the original one simply due to the fact it's roughly 5-years old. If that works, you will be all set!
