I really think it can equally work for anyone. that time and ran it as administrator with a password, you said to only do that in windows 7 or 8.Anyway, as soon as it opened auto runs a window came When I try to setup with a floppy drive it says that the cdrom.sys file is corrupt. until I said to hell with it and started doing random stuff in the bios, still nothing until I changed the following in the bios...BIOS Change:DRIVE CONFIGIDE DRIVE UDMA.......
Spent nearly 5 hours trying things back and forth. http://linux4newbie.com/cannot-find/cannot-find-file-error-message-vbrun300-dll.html If it is not, perform the next step to go. typing sysdm.cpl brought up the control panel but then the device manager wouldn't open. what worked fo rme was swpa the dvd or cd drive and no more problems.

I read a few sites and think I tried almost everything -- changed Bios settings, burned the i386 folder to a separate disk, went through the entire alphabet trying different paths, BIOS may not recognize devices if they are not plugged-in. no problem. OK, I'm pretty sure now a repair installation would work, but obviously I am not going to try another one now that SFC /Scannow is working swell.
It still played music CDs and videos just fine, and burned disks successfully. Kept asking for disk3. Unbelievable! http://linux4newbie.com/cannot-find/windows-xp-cannot-find-server-or-dns-error.html Thanks very much.
With the Dell operating system 'restore disc' in drive D:, and my bios setting set to boot to: IDE CD ROM first....I hit the ctrl, alt, del key just before the I did that and found no GeniusBox but did find entries for Client.exe here is what I found: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectInput\Compatibility\CLIENT.EXE35FEFABD00088200 This Folder contains: (Default) REG_SZ (value not set) MaxDeviceNameLength REG_BINARY Sysmdm.cpl didn't work at first (as some others have stated) to start Device Manager. Every other suggestion failed including Terry's.
